Welcome to the official site of the Wadawurrung!

Wadawurrung people are the Traditional Owners of this land (see map below). Our family have looked after and cared for the land for over a thousand generations, still caring for it to this very day. This is achieved by having our organisation, Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation (trading as Wadawurrung) representing Traditional Owner interests at all levels of government and community.

The Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation (WAC), trading as Wadawurrung, is the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) for Wadawurrung country. WAC has a statutory role in the management of Aboriginal heritage values and culture within our region, under the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Act, 2006.

In support of our above responsibilities, we provide a wide variety of services to organisations, assisting them in compliance with the aforementioned Act. We provide field representatives to assist with the discovery and repatriation of cultural heritage artefacts and ancestral remains. Our induction programs help to acquaint individuals and organisations with our heritage.

The responsibilities of the RAP are:

  • Evaluating Cultural Heritage Management Plans
  • Providing advice on applications for Cultural Heritage Permits
  • Making decisions about Cultural Heritage Agreements
  • Providing advice or application for interim or ongoing Protection Declarations
